After Christmas we had a day while the kids were on break to go to a snow park (remember, there isn't sufficient snow to play in here unless you drive to the mountains, so they put up a park and charge to let you slide down a hill). When we got there, being it was a gorgeous day, the park was full - no more places to park cars, even at $20 per car, so we headed to the nearest parkinglot and played there. The kids just wanted snow.We were thrilled. And the scenery was so pretty!
Back in October I met a guy who wanted photo help for his fledgling online backpacking magazine. He "hired" me as the lead photography director/organizer. I have spent most of my spare minutes since then working on the magazine in some way. It is called Seattle Backpackers Magazine. Click the words and you'll see it. I am now the Director of Photography, Editor in Chief, and Co-Owner of this lovely entity. Yes, it's all volunteer, but it's a labor of love and looks in the short term like it will not only open a ton of new doors for me, but also may provide income and a happy job all at once if I play my cards right.
Since that got going, I have been, of course, neck-deep in everything backpacking, and loving it. This leads me to be out in the wilds climbing up snowy mountains and hiking through forests, even now. Here are some photos from a couple recent trips:
I did a pre-sunrise hike (me in a headlamp, 2 layers of long underwear and my camera) up a nearby mountain called Rattlesnake Ridge. We got to the top about 20 minutes before sunrise. These are my photos from the morning:
Portland and New Years are next. Until then...
